Description

Overview:
The Crocea Clam, also known as the “Saffron Clam” or “Boring Clam,” is a vibrant reef gem prized for its intense coloration—ranging from electric blue and green to gold and purple. Its dazzling mantle and compact size make it a favorite among reef aquarists looking to add living beauty and biodiversity to their tanks.

Origin:
Native to shallow reef flats and lagoons of the Indo-Pacific, including Fiji, Tonga, and the Solomon Islands, Tridacna crocea typically embeds itself into rockwork or coral by boring into hard substrate.

Feeding:
A photosynthetic filter feeder, the Crocea Clam relies heavily on strong lighting to support its symbiotic zooxanthellae. Supplement its diet with occasional phytoplankton or marine micro-foods, especially in younger or lower-light setups.

Tank Mates:
Reef-safe and peaceful, Crocea Clams do well with other invertebrates and non-aggressive fish. Avoid housing them with predatory species like certain wrasses or puffers that may nip at their mantles.

Water Parameters:

Temperature: 76–82°F (24–28°C)

pH: 8.1–8.4

Salinity: 1.023–1.025 SG

Calcium: 400–450 ppm

Alkalinity: 8–12 dKH

Lighting: High-intensity reef lighting (preferably LED or metal halide)

With proper care, the Crocea Clam becomes a long-lived and breathtaking focal point in any reef aquarium. Its vibrant colour’s and natural filtration abilities make it a functional and visually stunning addition to your tank.
