Blue Spotted Jawfish (Opistognathus rosenblatti)

Overview:
The Blue Spotted Jawfish is a striking and active burrow-dwelling marine fish, easily recognized by its elongated body and vibrant blue spots. Known for its fascinating sand-sifting and burrow-building behavior, it adds both color and interest to marine aquariums.

Origin:
Native to the Eastern Pacific, typically found in sandy substrates near coral reefs.

Feeding:
Carnivorous. Feeds on small crustaceans, plankton, and detritus. In aquariums, accepts finely chopped seafood, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and high-quality sinking pellets. Target feeding helps ensure nutritional needs are met.

Tank Tames:
Peaceful and reef-safe. Compatible with small, non-aggressive fish and invertebrates. Avoid aggressive species that may disturb its burrow or compete for food.

Aggression:
Non-aggressive, but may defend its burrow from intruders.

Experience Level:
Intermediate. Requires a mature tank with deep sand beds for burrowing, stable water parameters, and low to moderate flow.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 72–78°F (22–25.5°C)

  • pH: 8.1–8.4

  • Salinity: 1.023–1.025

  • dKH: 8–12
