Description
Blue Streak Pygmy Basslet (Pseudochromis springeri) – Store Description
Overview
The Blue Streak Pygmy Basslet, also known as Springer’s Dottyback, is a striking and hardy marine fish featuring a deep black body highlighted by brilliant electric-blue streaks. Compact, active, and full of personality, it’s a fantastic choice for adding color and energy to reef or community aquariums.
Origin
Native to the Red Sea and the Western Indian Ocean, this species inhabits coral reefs and rocky areas where it darts among crevices for shelter and hunting small invertebrates.
Feeding
A carnivorous species that thrives on a varied diet of meaty marine foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality frozen or pellet foods. Feed once or twice daily for best health and coloration.
Tank Mates
Generally peaceful when kept with other small to medium community fish. It can be housed with gobies, clownfish, wrasses, and similar-sized reef-safe species. Avoid keeping multiple dottybacks in small tanks or pairing with very timid or slow-moving fish.
Aggression
Mildly territorial, especially in smaller aquariums. Providing rockwork and hiding spaces helps reduce aggression and allows the Blue Streak Pygmy Basslet to establish its own territory comfortably.
Experience Level
Ideal for beginner to intermediate marine aquarists. Hardy, easy to feed, and reef-safe, this species adapts well to aquarium life and is suitable for both nano and larger reef systems.
