Description
Giant Green Button Coral Polyp (Protopalythoa sp.)
Overview:
The Giant Green Button Coral Polyp is a robust and visually striking zoanthid, forming large, button-like polyps in vivid green hues. Its encrusting growth pattern creates a lush mat over rockwork, adding both texture and color to reef aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific, commonly found on coral reefs, rocky substrates, and rubble zones.
Feeding:
Primarily photosynthetic, relying on symbiotic zooxanthellae for nutrition. Supplemental feedings of phytoplankton, microplankton, or other liquid coral foods can enhance growth and coloration.
Tank Mates:
Reef-safe. Compatible with most peaceful fish and invertebrates. Should be placed with consideration to slower-growing corals, as its rapid encrusting nature can compete for space.
Aggression:
Non-aggressive but fast-growing; can overtake adjacent corals if not managed.
Experience Level:
Beginner to intermediate. Hardy and adaptable, suitable for most reef tanks. Prefers moderate lighting, gentle to moderate water flow, and stable water parameters.
Water Parameters:
-
Temperature: 72–78°F (22–25.5°C)
-
pH: 8.1–8.4
-
Salinity: 1.023–1.025
-
