Description

South Pacific Coloured Coral Polyp (Zoanthus sp.)

Overview:
The South Pacific Coloured Coral Polyp is a vibrant zoanthid, admired for its dazzling range of colors and patterns that can include greens, oranges, purples, blues, and reds. These polyps form a living carpet of bright, star-like colonies, making them a favorite choice for hobbyists looking to add striking visual impact to their reef aquarium.

Origin:
Collected from the South Pacific region, where they thrive in shallow reef flats and rocky crevices.

Feeding:
Primarily photosynthetic, sustained by symbiotic zooxanthellae. Supplemental feeding with phytoplankton, zooplankton, or coral foods will enhance coloration and colony growth.

Tank Mates:
Reef-safe and compatible with peaceful fish and invertebrates. Their encrusting nature makes them a great addition to rockscapes but they should be kept away from slow-growing corals they may overtake.

Aggression:
Low direct aggression, but fast-growing and capable of spreading quickly. Can outcompete less aggressive corals if not monitored.

Experience Level:
Beginner. Hardy and adaptable, suitable for reef keepers of all levels. Prefers moderate to high lighting and moderate water flow for best coloration and polyp extension.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 72–78°F (22–25.5°C)

  • pH: 8.1–8.4

  • Salinity: 1.023–1.025

  • dKH: 8–12
