Description
Metallic Green Star Coral Polyp (Pachyclavularia violacea)
Overview:
The Metallic Green Star Coral Polyp is a hardy, fast-growing soft coral prized for its brilliant metallic-green star-shaped polyps that shimmer under aquarium lighting. Its mat-forming growth creates a lush, moving carpet of color, making it a standout feature in reef aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific, where it encrusts rocks, rubble, and coral skeletons in shallow reef zones.
Feeding:
Primarily photosynthetic, deriving most of its energy from symbiotic zooxanthellae. Supplemental feeding with phytoplankton, marine snow, or liquid coral foods enhances growth and vibrancy.
Tank Mates:
Reef-safe and compatible with most peaceful fish and invertebrates. Should be placed thoughtfully, as it can quickly spread and overtake slower-growing corals.
Aggression:
Non-aggressive, but invasive in favorable conditions due to rapid growth and spreading.
Experience Level:
Beginner. Extremely hardy and adaptable, making it one of the most popular corals for new and experienced reef keepers alike. Prefers moderate to high lighting, moderate water flow, and stable conditions.
