Description
Fire Yellow Soft Coral (Nephthyigorgia sp.)
Overview:
The Fire Yellow Soft Coral is a breathtaking non-photosynthetic coral, admired for its brilliant yellow-orange branches and feathery polyps. Its vivid coloration provides a dramatic focal point in reef aquariums, making it a highly desirable piece for experienced hobbyists and collectors.
Origin:
Indo-Pacific, typically found in deeper or shaded reef habitats with moderate currents.
Feeding:
Unlike photosynthetic corals, Nephthyigorgia is non-photosynthetic (NPS) and requires regular direct feeding. It thrives on a diet of phytoplankton, rotifers, marine snow, and other microplankton foods. Consistent feeding is essential for long-term success.
Tank Mates:
Reef-safe. Best housed with peaceful fish and invertebrates. Placement should allow for good water movement to carry food to its polyps without blasting its delicate tissue.
Aggression:
Non-aggressive, but sensitive. Requires careful placement away from stinging corals and stable, clean water conditions.
Experience Level:
Advanced. Recommended for experienced aquarists due to its demanding care and feeding requirements. Prefers low to moderate lighting, moderate flow, and excellent water quality.
