Overview:
The Long Fin Peppered Corydoras is a graceful variant of the classic Corydoras paleatus, prized for its elongated, flowing fins and attractive peppered silver-and-black mottling. Like its standard form, it is a peaceful bottom-dweller that thrives in groups, tirelessly foraging across the substrate and helping keep the aquarium clean. Its unique long fins give it an extra touch of elegance, making it a standout in community aquariums.
Origin:
The wild-type Corydoras paleatus originates from cool, slow-moving waters in southern Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay. The long-fin variety is a selectively bred aquarium strain.
Feeding:
Omnivorous scavenger. Feeds readily on sinking pellets, catfish wafers, and high-quality flakes, along with frozen or live foods such as bloodworms and brine shrimp. Supplement with vegetable-based foods for optimal health.
Tank Mates:
Completely peaceful and ideal for community aquariums with small to medium non-aggressive fish such as tetras, rasboras, dwarf cichlids, and livebearers. Keep in groups of 5 or more for natural schooling behavior and confidence.
Water Parameters:
Temperature: 68–77°F (20–25°C)
pH: 6.0–8.0
Soft to moderately hard water
Minimum Tank Size: 20 gallons
Prefers smooth sand or fine gravel substrate to protect barbels
Behavior & Personality:
Peaceful, social bottom-dweller
Often rests during the day and becomes more active when feeding
Will dart to the surface occasionally to gulp air, a normal behavior for Corydoras
Special Notes:
Long fins are more prone to damage—avoid keeping with fin-nippers
Hardy and adaptable, suitable for beginners and experienced aquarists alike
Will spawn in aquariums with cool water changes and clean conditions
Best kept in planted tanks with shaded areas and open foraging space
The Long Fin Peppered Corydoras combines the charm and hardiness of the standard Peppered Cory with an elegant fin display, making it an excellent choice for peaceful, planted community setups.
