Overview:
Loaches are active bottom-dwelling fish that add personality and interest to freshwater aquariums. Known for their playful nature and unique patterns, they also help control leftover food and algae.
Origin:
Native to Asia and parts of Eastern Europe, commonly found in rivers and streams with sandy or rocky bottoms.
Feeding:
Omnivores that enjoy sinking pellets, wafers, frozen/live foods (bloodworms, brine shrimp), and blanched vegetables.
Tank Mates:
Best with peaceful community fish such as tetras, rasboras, barbs, gouramis, and catfish. Avoid aggressive or very large predatory species.
Aggression:
Generally peaceful and social, but some species may show mild territorial behavior. Thrive in groups of 3+.
Experience Level:
Great for intermediate aquarists due to their need for clean, well-oxygenated water and social groupings.
