Description
Cultured Pussy Soft Coral Orange (Scleronephthya sp.)
Overview:
The Orange Pussy Soft Coral is a striking soft coral with vibrant orange, tree-like branches covered in delicate polyps. Known for its fluffy, flower-like appearance, it adds vivid color and texture to reef aquariums. This cultured variety is more sustainable and better adapted to aquarium life compared to wild-collected specimens.
Origin:
Aquacultured from Indo-Pacific broodstock, reducing impact on natural reefs while providing a hardier, tank-adapted coral.
Feeding:
Unlike many soft corals, Scleronephthya is non-photosynthetic and does not rely on light for survival. It requires regular target or broadcast feedings of phytoplankton, zooplankton, or specialized coral foods. Strong water flow helps deliver food to its polyps.
Tank Mates:
Reef-safe and compatible with peaceful fish and invertebrates. Should be placed in areas of high flow and kept away from aggressive corals that may overshadow or damage it.
Aggression:
Low. Does not sting or engage in chemical warfare but is sensitive to being overgrown or shaded by more dominant corals.
Experience Level:
Advanced. Due to its non-photosynthetic nature, this coral requires frequent feeding and careful placement in strong, indirect water flow. Best suited for experienced aquarists prepared to meet its demanding care needs.
