Description
Finger Soft Coral Cactus (Sinularia brassica)
Overview:
The Finger Soft Coral Cactus is a hardy leather coral with thick, cactus-like branches that resemble clustered fingers. Its textured growth form adds structure and movement to reef aquariums, while its green, cream, or tan hues provide a natural and elegant appearance. This coral also helps create shelter for small reef fish and invertebrates.
Origin:
Indo-Pacific, where it thrives on shallow reef flats and slopes in areas of steady current.
Feeding:
Primarily photosynthetic, sustained by symbiotic zooxanthellae. Supplemental feeding with phytoplankton or microplankton may support growth, though not essential for survival.
Tank Mates:
Reef-safe and compatible with peaceful fish and invertebrates. Should be given adequate space from other corals, as larger colonies may compete chemically.
Aggression:
Moderate. Does not sting, but like many Sinularia, it may release chemicals (allelopathy) that inhibit neighboring corals. Activated carbon and good water flow reduce these effects.
Experience Level:
Beginner to intermediate. Very hardy, tolerant of varied reef conditions, and an excellent choice for aquarists looking for an easy-care leather coral. Prefers moderate lighting, moderate to strong water flow, and stable water chemistry.
