Description
Fire Red Soft Coral (Nephthyigorgia sp.)
Overview:
The Fire Red Soft Coral is a stunning and vibrant species, known for its brilliant red coloration and tree-like branches covered with delicate polyps. Its fiery tones add a dramatic splash of color to reef aquariums, making it a prized coral for advanced collectors.
Origin:
Found in the Indo-Pacific, typically in deeper or shaded reef zones with moderate water movement.
Feeding:
Unlike many photosynthetic corals, Nephthyigorgia is non-photosynthetic (NPS) and does not rely on light for nutrition. It requires regular feedings of phytoplankton, marine snow, rotifers, and other fine particulate foods to thrive.
Tank Mates:
Reef-safe and compatible with peaceful fish and invertebrates. Should be placed away from aggressive corals and provided with enough water flow to deliver food without blasting its delicate polyps.
Aggression:
Non-aggressive, but requires careful placement since it depends heavily on targeted feeding and flow.
Experience Level:
Advanced. Best suited for experienced reef aquarists due to its demanding feeding requirements and sensitivity to unstable water parameters. Prefers low to moderate lighting, moderate water flow, and pristine water quality.
Water Parameters:
-
Temperature: 72–78°F (22–25.5°C)
-
pH: 8.1–8.4
