The Garden Eel is a delicate and mesmerizing marine species, recognized for its slender, elongated body that often protrudes from the sand in clusters, creating a dynamic “garden-like” effect in aquariums. Their swaying movement with water currents offers a natural and calming display.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, typically found in sandy plains near coral reefs, including Indonesia, the Philippines, and Papua New Guinea.
Feeding:
Planktivorous – feeds primarily on zooplankton and other tiny drifting foods. In captivity, they require frequent feedings of finely chopped live or frozen planktonic foods.
Tank Mates:
Best housed with peaceful species. Avoid large or aggressive fish that may disturb or prey upon them.
Aggression:
Non-aggressive – extremely shy and peaceful.
Experience Level:
Advanced – challenging to maintain due to their specialized sand-dwelling and planktonic feeding requirements. Requires a deep, fine sand bed and gentle water flow.
