Description
Overview:
The King Kong Red Tiger Parrot Fish is a selectively bred hybrid cichlid prized for its brilliant red to orange coloration overlaid with bold, dark vertical tiger stripes. A cross between the Midas Cichlid (Amphilophus citrinellus) and Vieja melanurus, this fish combines the vibrant colors and rounded body shape of parrot cichlids with the stronger swimming ability and distinctive markings from its Vieja parentage.
Origin:
A fully captive-bred hybrid developed in the ornamental fish trade. Parent species originate from Central America, where they inhabit lakes and slow-moving rivers.
Feeding:
Omnivorous and eager eater. Thrives on high-quality cichlid pellets, supplemented with frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, krill, and brine shrimp. Vegetables such as spirulina flakes, blanched spinach, or peas help maintain vibrant coloration and digestive health.
Tank Mates:
Semi-aggressive. Best kept with other robust Central and South American cichlids, large catfish, or armored plecos. Avoid small or delicate fish, as they may be harassed or eaten. Housing with other parrot cichlids can work if introduced in a spacious tank with plenty of hiding places.
