Description
Metallic Blue Carpet Anemone – Stichodactyla haddoni
Overview:
The Metallic Blue Carpet Anemone is a breathtaking species prized for its vivid, electric-blue coloration and dense, carpet-like tentacles. As one of the larger hosting anemones, it makes a dramatic centerpiece in reef aquariums while providing a natural home for several clownfish species.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific, typically found on sandy bottoms and reef edges in shallow waters.
Feeding:
Carnivorous – feeds on meaty foods such as silversides, shrimp, fish, and prepared frozen foods, while also gaining nutrition from symbiotic zooxanthellae under strong lighting.
Tank Mates:
Best paired with clownfish, peaceful reef fish, and hardy invertebrates. Avoid aggressive fish and corals placed too close, as the anemone’s potent sting can cause damage.
Aggression:
Highly territorial – has a powerful sting and can harm nearby corals or invertebrates. Requires open space.
Experience Level:
Advanced aquarists only – needs a mature system, stable parameters, strong lighting, and sandy substrate to anchor.
