Overview

The Sea Hare (Dolabella auricularia) is a fascinating, soft-bodied marine gastropod known for its large, ear-shaped body and gentle, slow-moving behavior. With its unique appearance and algae-grazing habits, it serves as both a natural cleaner and a captivating invertebrate for mature reef aquariums.

Origin

Native to the Indo-Pacific region, including tropical reefs and seagrass beds, Dolabella auricularia inhabits sandy and rocky substrates where it grazes on macroalgae.

Feeding

Primarily herbivorous, feeding on macroalgae and seaweed. Supplemental feeding with nori or other algae sheets may be necessary in aquariums with limited natural growth.

Tank Mates

Peaceful and reef-safe, compatible with fish, snails, and other non-aggressive invertebrates. Avoid predatory species that may harass or eat the sea hare.

Aggression

Completely peaceful. Does not harm corals or other tank inhabitants.

Experience Level

Recommended for intermediate aquarists. Requires a mature reef tank with stable water parameters, ample algae for grazing, and gentle water flow.
