Monocle Blenny – Ecsenius bimaculatus
Overview:
The Monocle Blenny is a small, vibrant marine fish distinguished by its unique eye-like spot (“monocle”) on each side of its body. Peaceful and active, it is an excellent algae grazer and adds personality to reef and community aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, including Indonesia, the Philippines, and northern Australia.
Feeding:
Omnivorous — thrives on algae-based foods, high-quality marine flakes or pellets, frozen mysis and brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood.
Tank Mates:
Ideal for peaceful reef and community tanks, compatible with gobies, clownfish, damselfish, and other non-aggressive species.
Aggression:
Very peaceful, though may show mild territorial behavior toward other blennies in confined spaces.
Experience Level:
Suitable for beginner to intermediate aquarists, due to its hardy nature and simple care requirements.
