Overview:
The Naso Unicorn Tang is a large, striking marine fish, distinguished by its elongated body, prominent “unicorn” horn on the forehead, and vibrant grayish-blue coloration with yellow accents on the fins. Its bold appearance and active swimming behavior make it a dramatic centerpiece for large aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific, typically found on coral reefs, lagoons, and outer reef slopes from East Africa to the central Pacific.
Feeding:
Primarily herbivorous – thrives on marine algae, seaweed, and spirulina-based foods, supplemented occasionally with meaty foods like mysis shrimp to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Mates:
Best housed with peaceful to moderately semi-aggressive fish. Avoid pairing with highly aggressive or much smaller species due to territorial tendencies.
Aggression:
Moderately territorial – may defend feeding areas or territory, especially in smaller tanks, but generally peaceful in spacious aquariums.
Experience Level:
Intermediate to advanced aquarists – requires a large, mature aquarium with ample swimming space, stable water conditions, and a proper herbivore diet.
