Red Starfish (Fromia indica)
Overview:
The Red Starfish is a vibrant reef-safe starfish known for its bright red coloration and symmetrical, elegant arms. It is both decorative and functional, grazing on biofilm and detritus while adding a splash of color to marine aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, commonly found on coral reefs and rocky substrates.
Feeding:
Feeds primarily on biofilm, detritus, and algae. In captivity, may accept supplemental feeding with finely chopped seafood or algae-based foods in mature tanks.
Tank Mates:
Reef-safe. Compatible with fish, corals, and most invertebrates. Avoid housing with predatory fish such as puffers, triggers, or large wrasses.
Aggression:
Completely peaceful.
Experience Level:
Intermediate. Requires a mature aquarium with stable water parameters and plenty of live rock for grazing. Sensitive to rapid changes in salinity or water chemistry.
