Singapore Moss (Vesicularia dubyana)
Overview
Singapore Moss is a hardy and attractive aquatic moss known for its soft, lush, and bushy growth. Often confused with Java Moss, it features a slightly tidier, more triangular branching pattern and a deeper green tone. It is excellent for aquascaping, providing shelter for fry, and adding natural texture to driftwood or rocks.
Origin
Native to Southeast Asia, especially Singapore and surrounding regions, where it grows on submerged roots, stones, and shaded stream banks.
Lighting & Placement
Light: Low to medium (avoids algae issues at lower light)
Placement: Foreground, midground, on hardscape, or as a moss wall
Notes: Attach using thread, glue, or mesh. Grows slowly compared to Java Moss but forms denser cushions.
